ICOM Radio - The Local Two Way Radio Provider

As the name suggests this Blog will focus primarily on reviews of two way radios and will discuss the relative merits of individual models. And so whilst I’m busily testing and reviewing particular makes and models of radio communication equipment I thought it would also make sense to briefly mention the radio manufacturers and give you a brief insight into who they are, what they do and what they offer.

To begin with I’m going to start with a company who when compared to some of their rivals perhaps aren’t a household name but who none the less are major players in the world of two way radio.

Icom (UK) Ltd were established in 1974 and as the sole importer and distributor for Icom Inc, are one of the UK’s Leading distributors of radio communications products.

What I like about the Icom operation in the UK is that despite their growing customer base, there is still something friendly and almost local about the service they provide and the staff they employ. I’ve always found them to be extremely helpful and as such as always keen to test out any new models they have as and when they hit the market.

For those of you who don’t know a great deal about Icom, they really came to prominence during the Falklands conflict when they successfully supplied a large order to the UK Ministry of Defence. Icom’s ability to modify and inspect radios to comply with MOD strict specifications led to Icom being recognized as a real player in the radio communications industry.

When you consider Icom are up against such household names as Kenwood and Motorola it is some achievement that Icom are so highly regarded. With base-station, mobile and handheld units covering many frequency bands, I have more often than not found Icom Radios extremely reliable and easy to use.

From their ATEX approved equipment to airband portable radio communications I would strongly urge anyone looking for an affordable, reliable and quality two way radio solution to check out what Icom have to offer.
